It’s time to image yourself in the show Bridgerton. Which character would you be friends with? If you could raid one of their closets, whose would it be?

This dress project was a request in the Sew Anastasia Discord, and I jumped right on it as I had just finished watching the 4th season. I designed a dress that is the main style in the whole show. It is an empire waist dress with a puff sleeve, plain front and pleated back.

Actually, it was too hard to pick just one of the sleeves from the show, so I opted to show you a variety of sleeve styles. Want to make one of the other variations? Easy peasy! I've included a tutorial on how to gather the top or bottom of the sleeve as you prefer. Want a flutter sleeve? Just don't add the band at the bottom.

Plus you can make the back waist pleats into gathers and turn the bust dart into gathers. This creates a whole new style of bridgerton dress.

Do you know what an underlining is? You will soon! I show you how to attach an underlining along with the full lining so you can use whatever sheer fabric you want.

Plus, you can use the same pattern to make this out a light rayon or linen for summer and skip all the linings. You can just add a bias facing to the neckline and sleeve hem for a nice, light, clean look.

This dress can really take on a multitude of styles. Everything from bridgerton to 60's maxi babydoll in a psychedelic print to a 90's floral or pleather in a mini length. I can't wait to see how you style this sewing pattern! ๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿงต๐Ÿฉท

Fabric Required

You’ll need the same amount of Lining and Self (Outer) fabric. How much depends on the width of the fabric and the size you’re making:
44″ wide fabric:
ย  ย  Size 0-16: 4 1/2 yards
53″ wide fabric:
ย  ย  Size 0-16: 3 1/2 yards
ย  ย  Size 18-24: 4 1/4 yards
ย  ย  Size 26-32: 4 3/4 yards
58″ wide fabric:
ย  ย  Size 0-16: 3 1/4 yards
ย  ย  Size 18-24: 3 1/2 yards
ย  ย  Size 26-32: 4 1/2 yards
ย  ย  Size 34-38: 4 3/4 yards
If you’re using a lace or sheer fabric, you may want to double the amount of lining to create an underlining as shown in the video.
If you shorten the skirt, it’ll reduce the fabric required by about double. For example, if you shorten the skirt 18″, you’ll need about 1 yard (36″) less fabric.

Seam Allowances

1/2″ Seam Allowance except 1/4″ at the neck & bottom of sleeve

Printing the pattern

When it comes to printing the pattern, you have two options to choose from โ€“ the home printer version or the large format version. The home printer version is great for those who prefer the convenience of printing at home on standard size paper. Simply download the PDF file, ensure your printer settings are set to actual size, and print out the pattern. Your other option, the large format version is ideal for those who want to skip the taping of multiple sheets together. You can take the large format file to a local print shop or use an online printing service to have the pattern printed on a single large sheet. I like using PDFplotting.com.

Whichever version you choose, make sure to double-check that the scaling is correct before cutting into your fabric. Measure the test square. This will ensure that the pattern is being printed at the right size. Once you have your pattern printed, assembled (if necessary), and you are ready to start on your project.

This file is also a layered PDF so you can print just your size or print just a few sizes. You do not need to print all of the sizes.

You will get both print files with this download. The letter/A4 version and the large format version.
