This day pack, or book bag, pattern is perfect to make for carrying things for school or work, or for going for a hike.  The bag closes with a double zipper and has a large outer zippered pocket, as well as a hang loop at the top.  The inside has an option for adding a padded pocket that can store electronics or small computers (and adds a layer of comfort).  The adjustable straps can also be padded.

Suggested Fabrics:
Pack: Waterproof 400 denier nylon Pack Cloth, 500 denier nylon Cordura, or medium to heavy cotton duck.
Padding: Lightweight fleece

1 yd 45" or 60" (115cm or 150cm) wide fabric
1/8 yd (12cm) padding for strap only OR 3/8 yd (34cm) padding for strap plus optional inside pocket

1-1/4 yd (115cm) #5 coil zipper, three #5 coil zipper pulls, 1-1/4yd (115cm) 1" (2.5cm) nylon webbing, two 1" (2.5cm) double bar buckles, polyester thread.
