Four feminine vintage camisole patterns are included in this one pattern - two to sew, one to knit and one to crochet. Both sewn camisoles button in front and are from the late Victorian period. Our long-sleeved original came from England, very close to the turn of the century. The sleeveless version was worn in about 1890, when bodices were tight; fullness in the back “peplum” was meant to accommodate a bustle.
The Long-Sleeved Camisole is gathered into a simple peplum. Groupings of tucks are interspersed with optional lace insertion. The scoop neckline is adjusted with a drawstring and finished with inserted lace, beading and edging lace. The waistline drawstring laces through beading, and edging lace finishes the peplum and tucked cuffs.
Our alluring Sleeveless Camisole is closely fitted by princess seaming and darts, flaring out below the waist in back. In View B, front and back yoke pieces are daintily embellished with tucking and lace insertion; View A features a plain yoke. Gathered lace finished with narrow bias binding edges the scoop neckline, armholes, and yoke.
Candi Jensen designed two more camisoles for you to knit or crochet. The Knitted Camisole has short, puffed sleeves, a scoop slip-over neck, and a self-drawstring waist with a short peplum. Its open-work pattern is lovely under or over your favorite top. The knitting pattern is a simple eyelet lace stitch.
The Crocheted Camisole is a sleeveless, scoop-neck camisole/vest designed especially to be worn over the Long-Sleeved Camisole in this pattern, but can easily be worn on its own. The pattern is an easy-to-follow double crochet stitch with an eyelet pattern at center front. Chain-stitch forms a scalloped edging at neck, armholes, and front opening, and a drawstring accents the waist.
