I did not wash before sewing. Fabric dye did come off on my hands as I produced my dress. I used silk thread; stretch needles (130/705 H-S 75/11), which worked beautifully. I used black flexi lace hem tape with application to fabric on inside of fabric edge in lieu of on top in order to get smooth finish in right side wiithout top edge of fabric show. I hand stitched with blind stretch stitch. I hand washed inside out without softener and two rinse cycles. I steamed hem and pressed sections with my clean wood ruler after doing so in order to get a clean hemline. I steamed on my board with double layer of extra Velvet fabric underneath and steaming inside of hem. This left not a single mark. Afterward, I put the dress on my maniqquin and steamed every part of the dress on Right side. It became all lustrious like brand new again!

This fabric was hard to really see what the quality of this fabric would be but When I received it I was very pleased. This fabric is a nice dark black it looks like a regular cotton velvet but it is stretchy. I’m glad I ordered extra fabric.
